Right-handed hurler David Bromberg goes to Triple-A

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, announced that RHP David Bromberg has been promoted to Triple-A Rochester. He has left the Rock Cats and joined the Red Wings in the International League. LHP Aaron Thompson, who pitched in the Major League's last season at Pittsburgh, has joined the Rock Cats active roster and will start Sunday 1:35 PM against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington-NL) at New Britain Stadium.

Bromberg, 24, who has pitched for the Rock Cats during the past three seasons was 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA in six starts in New Britain's starting rotation. He began the season in the bullpen and joined the rotation when RHP Alex Wimmers went on the disabled list. The right-hander combined to go 7-9 with a 4.13 ERA in 36 games (30 starts) with the Rock Cats since 2010. Bromberg pitched 9 games at Triple-A Rochester in 2010.

Thompson, 25, was signed by the Twins as a free agent this past winter with an invite to Major League Spring Training. A former #1 pick of the Florida Marlins in 2005 (22nd overall), Thompson pitched four games for the Pittsburg Pirates last season, going 0-0 with a 7.04 ERA (6ER 7.2 IP). The left-handed pitcher made his Major League debut, August 24, 2011 vs Milwaukee, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings with four hits allowed, two walks and one strikeout. He was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis after the start and then recalled by the Pirates in September. Thompson has pitched in the Marlins, Nationals, and Pirates' systems and came through the Eastern League with Harrisburg in 2009-2010 and pitched 28 games for Altoona last season.

The Rock Cats begin a 3-game weekend series tonight at 6:35 PM against Harrisburg.
