
Aeros Muster Just Three Hits, Fall to Sea Dogs 9-2

PORTLAND, ME - The Akron Aeros scored just two runs on three hits as they lost game one of a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs 9-2 Tuesday at Hadlock Field.
Left-handed pitcher Matt Packer suffered the loss for Akron pitching 5.1 innings, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits, walking one and striking out four.
Right-handed pitcher Craig Haeger recorded the win for Portland tossing seven innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and striking out nine while walking two.
The Aeros (60-56) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Juan Diaz RBI sacrifice fly.
The Sea Dogs (49-66) answered in the bottom of the frame. Packer struck out Ryan Khoury to open the inning, but he reached on a wild pitch. Khoury advanced to third on an Alex Hassan double. Mark Wagner followed with a two-RBI triple as the Sea Dogs erased a one-run deficit and took a 2-1 lead. Wagner scored on a Will Middlebrooks RBI single to make it 3-1.
Akron scored again in the top of the second inning when Nick Weglarz came home on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.
Matt Spring got the run back for the Sea Dogs in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single.
Portland padded their lead scoring five more times as they went on to the win.
The Aeros and Sea Dogs will continue their three-game series on Wednesday. Akron will give the ball to right-handed pitcher Paolo Espino, who is 5-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 2011. He will face fellow right-hander Brock Huntzinger, who is 5-9 with a 6.63 ERA this season. First pitch is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
