Admirals Vice President Joe Gregory Honored as Metropolitan Person of the Year in Sports

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Admirals Vice President Joe Gregory has been honored with the Tom Fergusson Memorial Award as the "Metropolitan Person of the Year in Sports." The Norfolk Sports Club presented the award to Gregory at their 68th Annual Jamboree last night.
Gregory has been Vice President of the Admirals for the past five seasons and is entering his second season as General Manager of the International League's Norfolk Tides baseball team.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Gregory joined the Admirals prior to the 2008-09 season and has seen marked growth in attendance and corporate partnerships in each of his five seasons at the helm of the club. The team's average attendance has grown by more than 25%, and 2012-13 marks the second straight year with an average nightly attendance of more than 5,000 fans per game - a feat that had not been accomplished in any of the prior 11 seasons.
On October 4, 2011, Gregory was named General Manager of the Tides and has run operations for both the Admirals and Tides ever since. The Tides continue to thrive as one of the most successful teams in minor league baseball.
The Norfolk Sports Club has honored the Metropolitan Person of the Year in Sports since 1943 with the Tom Fergusson Memorial Award. Fergusson was the founder and second president of the Norfolk Sports Club. Gregory joins the likes of Norfolk Tides Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor to the President Dave Rosenfield (1976), Admirals original owner and Hall of Famer Blake Cullen (1990) and Tides and Admirals President Ken Young (1993) as a recipient of the Tom Fergusson Memorial Award.
