Nick Walters Signed to ATO

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has signed defenseman Nick Walters to an amateur tryout contract (ATO).

Walters, 18, was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round (#116 overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He recently completed his third season in the Western Hockey League where he split time between Brandon and Everett.

After starting the season with the Everett Silvertips, Walters was traded to Brandon on Jan. 10. Between his two stops, he appeared in 64 games and accounted for 19 points (one goal, 18 assists) and 106 penalty minutes. Overall in three seasons he has played in 174 WHL games and posted 41 points (seven goals, 34 assists) and 253 penalty minutes.

The 6'2", 200-pound defenseman is a native of St. Albert, Alberta and was taken eighth overall in the first round of the 2009 bantam draft of the WHL.
