Rochester, NY - Crunch Coach Rob Zettler made his head coaching debut as the Syracuse Crunch fell 1-0 to the Rochester Americans tonight at the Blue Cross Arena.
Rochester goaltender David Leggio made 38 saves and Rick Schofield scored the lone goal to blank the Crunch and improve their season series advantage to 7-2-0-0.
Despite outshooting the Americans 38 to 14 the Crunch fall to 39-18-3-5 on the season and 23-9-0-2 away from the War Memorial. The Crunch continue to sit atop the Eastern Conference with 86 points.
Americans center Schofield scored the game's only goal with less than a minute remaining in the first frame. Rochester left wing Zemgus Girgensons fed Schofield from behind the net before Schofield beat Crunch goaltender Riku Helenius with a one-timer for a 1-0 Rochester lead.
The Crunch dominated play during a scoreless second and third period but were unable to break through Leggio. Rochester netminder Leggio turned aside 28 shots during the final two frames, while the Amerks only tested Helenius ten times.
Crunchables...Defenseman Brian Lee made his Syracuse Crunch debut tonight...The Crunch are 4-14-1-3 when trailing after two periods...The Crunch play four of their next five contests on the road...Riku Helenius made his third consecutive start tonight...he is 1-2-0-0 in that span...The Crunch have one more regular season meeting with Rochester on April 13 at the War Memorial.
