Admirals Stumble against the Moose
December 2, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - In a game nearly identical to the first time these two teams played, the Admirals dropped a 3-2 decision to the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
In both games the Admirals fell behind by two goals early in the game. And in both games Milwaukee rallied to tie the score only to see Manitoba break the tie and hold the Ads off down the stretch for the win.
Tuesday night the Moose took a 2-0 first period lead on Milwaukee thanks to goals by former Admiral Matt Halischuk at 6:13 and a deflection by Thomas Raffi past Ads goalie Marek Mazanec at 15:38. Both of Halishcuk's goals this season have come against his former club.
The Ads cut the Moose lead in half with a power-play goal by Max Gortz with 3:02 remaining in the opening period. The play started with Freddy Gaudreau fired a shot from the right dot that was saved by Manitoba netminder Eric Cormie. However, Gaudreau got his own rebound and then slid the puck through the crease over to Gortz on the left circle, who slapper was too fast for Cormie to get back onto position.
Milwaukee tied the score when Kevin Fiala collected a loose puck in the right circle and beat Cormie top-shelf at the 8:19 mark of the second.
However, Manitoba would find the answer when team captain John Albert led a 2-on-1 into the Milwaukee zone. Albert was stopped by Mazanec on the first shot, but pounded home the rebound to give the Moose a 3-2 lead.
The Admirals applied some pressure in the third period, but couldn't come up with the equalizer and lost for just the second time since Halloween.
Milwaukee is off until Saturday night when they will travel to Chicago to take on the Wolves at 7 pm at the Allstate Arena.
