December 2, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - The St. John's IceCaps will celebrate Christmas by reaching out to both fans and the community at large this month.
NTV-Salvation Army Teddy Toss
For the fifth year, the IceCaps are teaming with NTV and the Salvation Army for the annual Teddy Toss which will be held Friday, December 11th as the Rochester Americans visit Mile One Centre. Patrons are encouraged to bring a plush toy (wrapped in plastic) to the game which will be donated to an underprivileged child here in Newfoundland and Labrador this Christmas. Last year, over 3,500 teddy bears were secured for children in need. Additionally, Santa Claus and Buddy will be on hand during intermissions to take photos with fans.
Janeway Visit
The annual Janeway Children's Hospital visit will take place Monday, December 14th, with IceCaps players and coaches meeting with young patients to provide excitement and encouragement for both kids and their families. Players will visit children in their rooms and present each of them with a gift. Visits will get under way at 1 p.m.
Mummers Night
On Saturday, December 12th, (with the Rochester Americans in town) the IceCaps celebrate Christmas with an old-time Newfoundland and Labrador flavour as game-operations staff will dress in costume as per the mummering tradition. For the uninitiated, mumming typically involves a group of friends or family who dress in disguise and visit homes within their community or neighbouring communities during the twelve days of Christmas.
Stocking Stuffer Nights-Trip Giveaway
On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 15th and 16th with the Albany Devils visiting St. John's, the IceCaps will hold their annual Stocking Stuffer Giveaway Nights with tons of great prizes being given away all night long. Also, on December 16th the IceCaps will host the Last Fan Standing Trip Giveaway in which a lucky fan will win a trip for two to Montreal to see Canadiens game.
Tickets for these games and those after Christmas, can be purchased at the Mile One Centre box office (noon-5 p.m.), by phone at 709-576-7657 (noon-5:30 p.m.), or online at www.mileonecentre.com.
