Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Down two goals early in the second period, the Admirals battled back with three goals in 3:43 to help overcome the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night at Scope Arena, 4-3.

Saturday's game began slowly, with neither team scoring through the opening 20 minutes, but the excitement picked up in the middle frame. Just 2:23 in, Springfield's Trent Vogelhuber and Thomas Larkin flew into the Admirals' zone on a clean 2-on-1 break. Vogelhuber controlled the puck from the right circle and ripped a shot which went bar-down behind Norfolk goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. Larkin and Brett Ponich provided the assists as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later with Jaime Sifers in the box for cross-checking, Vogelhuber struck again. Streaking in all alone, Josh Anderson swatted the puck at Bryzgalov's blocker side. The Admirals' netminder stopped Anderson's initial shot but the winger directed the rebound towards Vogelhuber at the slot who tapped it in. Vogelhuber's second tally of the night at 4:10 put Springfield up, 2-0.

The Admirals did not let Springfield's momentum pick up any more speed. With Antoine Laganiere, Joseph Cramarossa and Mat Clark entering the visitors' zone on a three-on-two, Cramarossa reached for the puck on the right side and swiped it to Laganiere at center, who buried it in the net. The goal at 8:33 of the second period cut the Falcons' lead to 2-1.

A mere 22 seconds after Laganiere's tally while on the power play, Emerson Etem gained control of the puck in the slot and put it on net. Springfield goaltender Scott Munroe fumbled the shot and it trickled in. Max Friberg and Nic Kerdiles provided the helpers at 8:55 to tie the game up at two. Kerdiles has now notched a point in every game against Springfield this season.

The Admirals were rolling and had no intention to stop. Cramarossa skated up the right side of the ice with Laganiere at center and the two criss-crossed in the slot. Cramarossa wristed the puck on goal and found twine, giving the Admirals their first lead of the game. Captain Dave Steckel earned the secondary assist at 12:16, and the Admirals' 3-2 lead would last into the second intermission.

Norfolk added another tally late in the third period right off the face-off. William Karlsson won the draw and backhanded it to a waiting Etem who one-timed it behind Munroe for his second power play goal of the night. Karlsson registered the only assist at 16:40 to give the Admirals a two-goal advantage.

With seven seconds left, Springfield came within one courtesy of Anderson. Alexander Wennberg won the face-off in the Admirals' zone and passed it to Corey Cowick whose shot was saved by Bryzgalov. However, the goaltender couldn't find the rebound and the Falcons benefitted off Anderson's first professional goal.

The Admirals would hold on until the final buzzer and skate away with a 4-3 win over the Springfield Falcons, who had won the previous three matchups.

Munroe stopped 24 of 28 shots, while Bryzgalov turned aside 22 of 25.

The Falcons went 0-for-4 with the man-advantage, while the Admirals went 2-for-5 on the power play.

The Admirals finish up their homestand next weekend when they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday evenings.
