Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk rookie Cory Conacher tallied a pair of goals on the man-advantage to help the Admirals down the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 5-2, on Tuesday at the Norfolk Scope. The loss wrapped up a 6-4-0-3 month of November for the Penguins and allowed the Admirals to pull into a tie for first place in the East Division.
The score was level at 2-2 in the middle period when back-to-back Penguins penalties gave the Admirals a 5-on-3 advantage. They would make the most of their chance with Conacher firing home a cross zone feed at 13:56 that put Norfolk on top.
Conacher added another power play tally and lifted Norfolk to a 4-2 lead at 8:25 of the third with a wrist shot from the hash marks that snuck inside the near post. Norfolk was 2-for-7 on power play opportunities.
Trevor Smith completed the scoring with an empty-netter late in regulation. Scott Munroe finished with 26 saves on 30 shots as his record went to 2-2-2.
The Penguins opened the scoring at 15:36 of the first on a power play opportunity as Nick Petersen left a drop pass that Niko Dimitrakos blasted past Dustin Tokarski to make the score 1-0.
Mike Angelidis tied things up with 1:21 until the intermission as he was the recipient of a faceoff win and a backdoor pass that he knocked over the blocker of Munroe.
Norfolk took its first lead of the match at the 10:31 mark of the second as a scrum in front the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net pushed the goaltender and the puck across the goal line. Blair Jones was given credit for the goal.
Twenty-two seconds later, Ben Street pulled the Penguins even with a soft wrist shot that ticked off a stick and fluttered through the pads of Tokarski. It was his sixth tally of the season.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins return to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Friday, December 2 to take on the Portland Pirates at 7:05 PM. All Friday home games are Dollar Dog and Draft Nights. Fans can purchase dollar dogs while supplies last, and fans 21 years of age and older may purchase select draft beers also for just $1 from 6:00-7:30pm.For tickets and more information, call the Penguins at (570) 208-PENS or visit www.wbspenguins.com.
