Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - The Norfolk Admirals have partnered with Nauticus this month in support of "Movember," a worldwide annual celebration of the mustache. Movember's purpose is to raise awareness of men's health issues, particularly prostate and testicular cancers. During the month of November, Admirals players, coaches and staff will be growing out their mustaches in support of Movember.
Movember will culminate with a "Mustache Bash at Nauticus" on Friday, November 30, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m., in the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center. Tickets for the event are $25 in advance ($30 at the door) with proceeds benefitting The Nauticus Foundation and the local Us TOO, a prostate cancer awareness organization. Festivities will include live music from The Bartones, hors d'oeuvres from Cuisine and Company, a cash bar and a photo booth. Jake's Place (a local barbershop) will conduct a shave-off towards the end of the event. All guests must be at least 21 years of age and must have a mustache to get into the event (ladies may grow, paint, or wear a fake mustache). With the military presence in Hampton Roads, there is not a better location to have this event than right next to the Battleship Wisconsin - a symbol of strength and masculinity! To purchase tickets or for more information, visit nauticus.org or call (757) 664-1005.
The Admirals encourage all fans to support Movember by growing out their facial hair. There will be a mustache competition at the Admirals home game on Wednesday, November 28, against the Hershey Bears. The winner will receive a Norfolk Admirals prize pack.
Movember was the brainchild of The Movember Foundation, a not-for-profit worldwide charity responsible for promoting the health initiative each year. It started in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, initially as a way to bring back the mustache as a fashion item. Because men are statistically less likely to take care of their health than women, Movember's current goal is to get men more aware by putting a fun twist on serious health issues. Participants begin the month clean-shaven, then grow their "Mo's" until November 30, when they then either throw or attend a Movember party. Located in Downtown Norfolk, Nauticus is an exciting interactive science and technology center that explores the naval, economic, and nautical power of the sea. Home of the Battleship Wisconsin, Nauticus features Battleship Wisconsin-related exhibits, hands-on exhibits, national-caliber traveling exhibits, HD films on a giant screen, sharks, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, and more!
