PROVIDENCE, RI -- The shootout between the Albany Devils and the Providence Bruins resembled the 65 minutes that preceded it. The Devils scored first, but Bruins forward Chris Bourque erased the lead. In the end, Providence's Jamie Tardif's shootout goal in the fifth round sunk Albany, 2-1, Friday at Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Goaltender Keith Kinkaid made a season-high 37 saves during his sixth appearance of the season. By holding the Bruins to just two goals, the Devils improved on their 2.50 goals-against average which entered the evening tied for seventh in the American Hockey League.

Adam Henrique was the Devils goal scorer during regulation and Matt Anderson found the back of the net in the second round of the shootout.

For Providence, rookie netminder Niklas Svedberg turned away 26 shots and made four saves on five shootout attempts.

Bourque scored in the second period and during the third round of the shootout, setting up Tardif's clincher.

In the first, Henrique opened the scoring when he went to the net and redirected a puck sent by Joe Whitney at 14:11. For Henrique it was his third goal of the season, while Joe Whitney, who led the Devils last season with 44 points, picked up his second assist.

Albany's lead lasted until Bourque scored on a power play at 8:19 of the second. Carter Camper and Craig Cunningham earned the helpers.

During the shootout, the Devils rolled out Bobby Butler, Anderson, Whitney, Jacob Josefson and Henrique. Providence used Ryan Spooner, Cunningham, Bourque, Camper and Tardif.

Albany was without defenseman Matthew Corrente, who was serving a one game suspension for an instigating penalty during the final five minutes of the third period at the Adirondack Phantoms last Saturday. Filling the void was Alexander Urbom, who returned after missing the last five contests with an upper-body injury. Urbom finished the game with five penalty minutes.

The Devils welcome the Adirondack Phantoms to Times Union Center for a 7 pm contest Saturday. The game is the third of a best-of-12 series for the Time Warner Cable Cup. The series is currently tied, 1-1. Fans who can't make it to the arena can follow the action on ahllive.com.
