Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club will be teaming up with the American Red Cross to support the many families affected by Hurricane Sandy. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
During Saturday night's game, a team-signed HERSHEY BEARS goalie stick will be auctioned off at the American Red Cross' location behind Section 104 on the GIANT Center concourse, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross.
BEARS Forward Jon DiSalvatore is also putting his money where the team's talent lies. For every goal scored by the BEARS during this weekend's home games, DiSalvatore will donate $25.00 toward relief efforts. DiSalvatore is also welcoming fans to join him in this charitable cause.
The American Red Cross will also be on-site at both upcoming HERSHEY BEARS home games - Saturday, November 10 against the St. John's IceCaps and Sunday, November 11 against the Portland Pirates - to accept monetary donations that will be used to help those affected by the storm to recover.
"I think the least we can do is to raise some money and help these people out, because watching what they are going through is horrible," DiSalvatore said of nearby hurricane-stricken regions. "I'm simply using the benefit that we have - to be able to reach out to so many fans - and use this opportunity to help people who are going through extreme devastation right now."
Fans interested in joining DiSalvatore's effort may donate at the American Red Cross table on Saturday and Sunday, by visiting the website www.redcross.org/donate, by calling 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-RED CROSS) or by texting the word REDCROSS to the number 90999 to make a $10.00 donation.
The American Red Cross will only be accepting monetary donations at this weekend's games.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
