Admirals Fall to Wolves in Shoot-Out

April 11, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI - Freddy Gaudreau and Harry Zolnierczyk each scored in the final five minutes of regulation to force overtime and help the Admirals earn a point, before eventually succumbing to the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in a shoot-out.

The bad news started for the Admirals before the game was even over as Rockford defeated Iowa to eliminate the Ads from playoff contention with just three games to play in the regular season.

After a scoreless first period, Chicago took a 1-0 just 38 seconds into the second via a Jake Bischoff slapper from the right point.

However Anthony Richard leveled the score with 3:23 to play in the sandwich frame. Richard carried the puck right down the heart of the Wolves zone and then fired a snapped from between the wheels for his 19th goal of the season.

The Wolves regained the lead with a pair of goals early in the third period, just 2:32 apart. The first was a power-play goal from Paul Thompson at 3:13 and then an even-strength marker at the 5:45 mark.

Gaudreau started the Admirals comeback when he took a cross-ice pass from Mark McNeill and beat Chicago Goalie Oscar Dansk over his left shoulder for his 22nd goal of the season. The tally also extended his scoring streak to eight games, which is a new team high.

Things look dim for the Ads, but a Wolves penalty, combined with Anders Lindback getting pulled in favor of an extra attacker, gave the team a 6-on-4 advantage. Positioned on the goal line, Zolnierczyk snuck a bad angle shot past Dansk for his 21st goal of the year, sending the game into overtime.

After a scoreless, the game went to a shoot-out where the Ads were 11-1 enter tonight. Brandon Pirri scored for the Wolves in the second round, which was matched by Milwaukee's Trevor Smith to extend the shoot-out before Phil Holm won it for the Wolves in the bottom of the fifth round.

The Admirals finish up the season with a home-and-home set with the Iowa Wild beginning Friday night in Des Moines and finishing up on Saturday night at 6 pm at Panther Arena.
