Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals clinched a spot in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs with a 2-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage Sunday afternoon at the Bradley Center. Josh Langfeld and John Vigilante each scored for the Admirals, while goaltender Pekka Rinne had 20 saves on the night to earn the victory.
The Admirals dominated play in the first period out shooting The Rampage 13 to 7. Milwaukee fought hard to keep play in the San Antonio zone by capitalizing on the Rampage's mistakes. It took almost the entire period for the Admirals to get on the board, but the goal horn finally sounded with just under 2 minutes to play. At 18:03 John Vigilante notched his 15th goal of the season to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.
The Ads wasted no time after taking the ice for the second period and increased their lead 2-0 after only 47 seconds. Cal O'Reilly and Josh Langfeld skated their way to a 2-on-1 and Langfeld tipped the puck in beating Rampage netminder Josh Tordjman gloveside.
San Antonio got themselves back in the game at the 3:34 mark when David Spina was positioned in front of the net and tapped in a pass from Mike Zigomanis to the make the score 2-1. Both teams played vehemently for the remainder of the period but goalies Rinne and Tordjman managed to keep the score unchanged.
Throughout the third period, both teams gathered momentum and close calls were seen at both ends of the ice. Rinne held on while the Rampage couldn't muster a comeback and the score remained 2-1 in favor of the Ads until the final whistle.
With his assist on Langfeld's goal, Cal O'Reilly earned his 78th point of the season- good enough for a fourth place tie in scoring in the American Hockey League.
The Admirals final regular season home game takes place next Friday, April 11th versus the Houston Aeros. Fans can purchase tickets for any home game, including the playoffs, by calling the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550 or by logging onto www.ticketmaster.com.
