Norfolk Admirals News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Troy Brouwer and Carl Corazzini had two goals each as the Norfolk Admirals (46-18-6-1) defeated the Binghamton Senators (19-42-3-5) 4-2 on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Admirals controlled play for much of the first period, out-shooting the Senators 16-4 in the opening frame and scoring the only goal of the period. Binghamton backstop Brian Elliott attempted to play a puck behind the net. However, Norfolk captain Craig MacDonald stole the puck from Elliott and centered it to the slot. Corazzini one-timed the puck into a nearly empty net at 14:59.

A sharp passing play on an Admirals power play 5:33 into the second period gave Norfolk a 2-0 lead. Martin St. Pierre sent a pass from the right half wall to Brouwer at the left faceoff dot. Brouwer one-timed the pass through Elliott's legs.

The Senators cut the Admirals' lead in half with a power play goal under four minutes later. Ryan Vesce spotted Josh Hennessy with a pass at the goalmouth, and Hennessy beat Norfolk goaltender Mike Brodeur at 9:06.

Brouwer's second goal of the game put the Admirals on top 3-1 after two periods. While on a five-on-three power play, Brouwer got the puck at the bottom of the left circle. He sent a snap shot that beat Elliott stick side at 15:09. Pierre Parenteau assisted on the play to stretch his scoring streak to nine games.

Norfolk took a 4-1 lead just 38 seconds into the final frame after another steal by MacDonald. The Admirals' captain stole the puck at center ice while the teams skated at four-on-four and sent Corazzini on a breakaway. Corazzini skated up the slot and sent a wrister top shelf, glove side.

The Senators cut their deficit to two goals midway through the period. Andrew Ebbett benefited from a turnover at the Norfolk blueline and sent a snap shot through a screen that beat Brodeur at 13:29.

That would be as close as Binghamton would get, as Brodeur stopped 19 of 20 shots in the third period to preserve a 4-2 Admirals win.

Brodeur (36 shots, 34 saves) picked up his fourth victory of the season. Elliott (37 shots, 33 saves) was saddled with the loss.

Norfolk was 2-6 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-8.

With 99 points, the Admirals now lead the East Division by one point over the Hershey Bears, who defeated the Philadelphia Phantoms tonight in Hershey. Norfolk also leads Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by five points, as the Penguins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack at home tonight. Both Hershey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton have two games in hand on Norfolk.
