Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 17, 2013) - Norfolk forward Emerson Etem scored with 3:58 left in regulation to tie the game, and defenseman Mat Clark scored the game-winner 1:57 into overtime as the Admirals came back to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Admirals improve to 22-24-3-1. The Sound Tigers earn a point with the overtime loss as their record moves to 22-21-3-3.

Special teams played a key role in the game, as the Admirals scored both of their goals on eight power play opportunities while the Sound Tigers managed just two power plays, both in the first period. Sound Tigers goaltender Kevin Poulin earned first-star honors with 39 saves and was the reason the Sound Tigers held one-goal lead late into the game.

Mike Halmo gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead 8:03 into regulation, when he converted on a turnover in front of the Norfolk net and slipped a backhand shot past goaltender Frederik Andersen's left leg pad for his second goal of the season.

The score remained even until the 3:42 mark of the middle period when Norfolk scored the first of its two power play goals. Devante Smith-Pelly skated the puck deep into the Sound Tigers' zone and sent a puck off of traffic in front past Poulin for his sixth goal of the season to know the score at one.

The Sound Tigers regained their lead at 11:44 when Chad Costello one-timed Matt Watkins' feed from the left circle over Andersen's left shoulder for his second goal of the year.

The Sound Tigers penalty kill was put to the test throughout the second and third periods when Norfolk earned six power play chances, including an extended 5-on-3 advantage, and capitalized on its last power play opportunity to even the score once again. Poulin made an acrobatic save on Sami Vatanen's shot, but Etem lifted the rebound over Poulin as he lunged to his left to make the score 2-2 and send the game to overtime.

Clark netted the game-winner off of a feed from Josh Brittain along the left half wall. Clark found space all alone in slot, and snapped a shot over Poulin's glove for his first goal of the season to complete the comeback for Norfolk.

The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday night when they travel to Springfield to face the Falcons at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m.
