February 17, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators topped the Albany Devils today with a 3-2 shootout victory at the Times Union Center. With the win, the B-Sens put an end to a two-game losing streak.
The game seemingly got off to a rough start for Binghamton as the Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead just 22 seconds into play. Corbin McPherson's wrister from the blueline found its way past Marc Cheverie to put the home team on the scoreboard.
The B-Sens rebounded as Cole Schneider scored his sixth goal of the season just nine seconds into a Binghamton power play at 8:47 to tie the game at one. Shane Prince and Chris Wideman drew the assists on the play.
Binghamton claimed the lead at 3:29 of the second as Louie Caporusso scored his first American Hockey League goal with help from Wideman and Schneider. Wideman's two points earned him his first multi-point game as a Binghamton Senator.
Steve Zalewski tied the game a two as he netted his eighth goal of the season off a feed from Joe Whitney at 15:07 of the third period, ultimately forcing overtime.
The game progressed to a shootout where Schneider scored the game winning goal in the sixth round to send the B-Sens home with the extra point.
Cheverie earned his first win for the B-Sens with 35 saves on 37 shots through regulation and overtime and only allowed one goal in the shootout. Keith Kinkaid started in goal for the Devils turning aside 24 of 26 shots through regulation and overtime, then stopped four of six Binghamton attempts in the shootout.
The B-Sens return to action tomorrow as they host the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $19 for side seating and $18 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets through the B-Sens' executive office, Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours, by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 607-722-SENS (7367) and through Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.
