Penguins Suffer Shutout Loss to Crunch
February 17, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - For the second straight home game, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was held scoreless by the opposition as the Syracuse Crunch outlasted the Penguins, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The game remained without a goal until the opening minutes of the third period when the Crunch quickly found the net twice over a span of 1:23. A failed clearing bid by the Penguins allowed Pierre-Cedric Labrie to find Kyle Wilson alone in front of Jeff Zatkoff for a backhand shot under the crossbar at 2:02.
Syracuse then went up by two as Tyler Johnson picked off a pass at the red line, drove down the center of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton zone and fired wrist shot that was denied by Zatkoff. Brett Connolly followed up the play to deposit the rebound.
Wilson recorded his second goal of the game at 11:44 when Johnson slipped him a pass in the slot for a wrister to the left side of the net.
Riku Helenius stopped all 23 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season and second in his last three starts. Zatkoff fell to 16-15-0 for the Penguins with 12 saves on 15 shots.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face the Adirondack Phantoms at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:00PM. Tune in on 102.3 The Mountain and AHLLive.com.
