Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--Pontus Aberg's 3-on-3 goal with just 1:39 left in overtime gave the Admirals a 3-2 win over the Chicago Wolves in Amtrak Rivalry action on Friday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Aberg's goal came off a wrister from the top of the right circle that beat Chicago goalie Matt Climie low to the far side.
Even though he gave up more than one goal in a game for the first time this season, Magnus Hellberg still earned the win to move to 6-0 on the year, stopping 31 shots, including 27 in the final two periods and OT.
The Admirals took a 1-0 lead at 8:58 of the first period on Austin Watson's team leading 6th of the season. Watson took a beautiful behind the back pass from Mark Van Guilder and beat Climie for the tally.
The Wolves controlled play for much of the second period and held a 12-8 shots advantage, but Hellberg stopped them all and the Ads killed off a pair of Chicago's power-plays.
Viktor Arvidsson gave the Ads a 2-0 lead late in the second period with a power-play marker. Taylor Aronson fed Arvidsson on the left dot and he fired a one-time that beat Climie high to the shorty side with just 1:01 left in the period.
Chicago carried the play once again in the third period, but unlike the second, they finally figured out a way to beat Hellberg. The Wolves first goal came on the power-play off a one-timer by Petteri Lindbohm at the 8:16 mark. That goal snapped a streak of 19 straight penalties the Ads had killed off.
Brent Regner evened the score at two with just 2:32 remaining in the game on his second of the season, forcing the second OT game in the Amtrak Rivalry this season.
The Admirals continue their first three-in-three of the season when they head to Rockford Saturday night to take on the IceHogs at 7 pm. Milwaukee's next home game is a rematch with the Wolves next Wednesday, November 26 at 7 pm.
