November 22, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Tyler Pitlick scored the game's decisive goal late in the third period to lift the Oklahoma City Barons past the Charlotte Checkers 6-4 Friday night at the Cox Convention Center.
With the game tied 4-4, Pitlick received a pass from Anton Lander in the Charlotte slot and fired a wrister past Charlotte goalie Drew MacIntyre for what would eventually be the game-winning goal at 18:14 of the frame.
Pitlick registered a goal and an assist in his first game at the Cox Convention Center since Nov. 1.
Brock McGinn got the Checkers on the board 3:14 of the first period, when he took a pass in the Oklahoma City slot from Justin Shugg and sent it past Barons goalie Richard Bachman for a 1-0 Charlotte lead.
The Checkers extended their lead to 2-0 at 8:24 of the frame when Danny Biega corralled a puck that deflected off Barons forward Matt Ford just beyond the right circle of the Oklahoma City zone and fired a slap shot through traffic and under the glove of Bachman.
Oklahoma City scored its first goal at 11:44 of the first period when Ford took a pass from Travis Ewanyk and slid a shot past Charlotte goalie Drew MacIntyre, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Checkers.
At 13:57 of the first, Oklahoma City knotted the score at two when Ryan Hamilton received the puck from Andrew Miller for a partial breakaway and pushed a forehand shot through the legs of MacIntyre.
Iiro Pakarinen gave the Barons a 3-2 lead at 11:44 of the second period when he grabbed a Tyler Pitlick pass near the left circle of the Charlotte zone and flicked a wrist shot past a sliding MacIntyre. The goal was Pakarinen's first since returning from Edmonton last week.
Oklahoma City stretched its lead to 4-2 at the 3:17 mark of the third period when Brad Hunt sent a pass through the Charlotte crease that found a wide-open Curtis Hamilton who chipped the puck into the pack of the Checkers net.
Charlotte mounted a comeback in the third that began with Shugg taking a pass from McGinn rear the left side of the Oklahoma City net and flipping it past Bachman, cutting the Barons' lead to 4-3 at 6:19.
McGinn scored his second goal of the game at 12:48 of the third, with Charlotte on the power play as a result of a tripping penalty to Oklahoma City's Jason Williams at 11:47, to tie the game at four.
Following Pitclick's go-ahead goal, Pakarinen added an empty-net goal at 19:36, giving the Barons their eventual 6-4 win.
The Barons and Checkers meet again Saturday, Nov. 22, when they face off at the Cox Convention Center in a 7 p.m. start. Fans have a chance to win a turkey on-ice following the game during the annual turkey shoot. Saturday is also the first Devon Salute to Heroes night of the season.
