New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Binghamton, NY- Adam Calderone went 3-for-4 with two doubles and Darin Mastroianni extended his hit streak to 14 games with a single, but the Fisher Cats fell 13-5 in Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
Mastroianni was robbed of a hit on a great catch in the top of the fifth by Mets RF Carlos Guzman, but his sacrifice fly allowed Adam Loewen to score to give New Hampshire a short-lived 3-2 lead.
Binghamton (17-12) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, added three in the sixth and scored four more in the seventh en route to the win. The Mets matched a franchise record by hitting eight doubles, three by catcher Mike Nickeas (3-for-5, 3 2B, 3 RBI) and two by Lucas Duda (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI).
Trailing 2-0, the Fisher Cats (19-10) tied the game in the top of the fourth. Callix Crabbe doubled and Eric Thames walked to start the inning. Crabbe moved to third on a fly out and scored on David Cooper's sacrifice fly. Calderone's first double plated Thames to tie the game at 2-2.
After knocking New Hampshire starter and loser Bobby Bell (2-2) out of the game while scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Fisher Cats scored one in the sixth. Thames doubled and scored on a single by Calderone to make it 6-3 Mets.
Binghamton starter Eddie Kunz (3-2) allowed four earned runs on five hits in five innings to earn the win. New Hampshire's final run came on consecutive doubles by Calderone and Jonathan Jaspe in the top of the eighth inning which made it 13-5. The rubber game of the series will be played on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. New Hampshire left-hander Luis Perez (3-1, 3.09) opposes B-Mets right-hander Dylan Owen (1-1, 3.76) in the 1:05pm game. Fisher Cats Pre-Game gets underway at 12:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats return home to open a four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday, May 13. An Atlas Fireworks Show follows the 7:05pm game between the future Red Sox and the future Blue Jays. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
