Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - A six-run second and a three-run seventh inning proved to be enough for the Altoona Curve on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark as they hung on to defeat the Erie SeaWolves, 9-7. It is the third time this season that the Curve has bested the SeaWolves.

After neither team scored in the first, Altoona sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Thad Weber (1-3) and was able to come away with six runs on eight hits. RBI hits in the inning came from Josh Harrison, Alex Presley, Chase d'Arnaud and Gorkys Hernandez as the first eight hitters in the Curve lineup each recorded a base-knock in the inning. The man who started the frame, Jim Negrych, brought in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Starter Tim Alderson came out to start the fourth with a six-run lead but Erie began to chip away at the advantage with a run of its own. After two groundouts, Michael Bertram singled and Cale Iorg doubled to plate Erie's first run of the game and bring the deficit to five.

The SeaWolves went on to score three runs in the fifth and then one more in the seventh to pull within one run of Altoona. Alderson was removed after 4.2 innings and finished the night having allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

With the lead suddenly shrunk to one, Altoona answered in the bottom of the seventh off Weber. Hernandez, who finished the game 3-for-4, doubled to begin the inning and would stay on the bases until Harrison doubled him in along with Negrych to widen the lead back to three. Harrison, who wound up at third after his two-run double because of the throw home, came home on a wild pitch by the reliever Zach Simons during Presley's at bat to put the Curve up by four.

Erie added two in the eighth but pulled no closer.

Dustin Molleken (1-3) earned the win in relief while Daniel Moskos recorded the last four outs for his seventh save of the season. Harrison finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

First-place Altoona (19-9) looks for a series win on Sunday when they host the SeaWolves (15-14) at 2 p.m. at Blair County Ballpark. LHP Rudy Owens (3-0, 2.83), who is coming off six no-hit innings in Richmond, makes the start for the Curve while southpaw Andy Oliver (2-1, 4.97) will start for Erie.
