BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Yutaka Fukufuji held Alaska scoreless for 58 minutes, stopping 28 of 29 shots as Bakersfield continued its mastery of the Aces with a 3-1 victory before 5,621 at Rabobank Arena.

Bakersfield failed to take advantage of an early five-on-three power play, but finally grabbed the lead late in the first period, as Mathieu Brunelle beat Alaska starter Peter Aubry on a breakaway with 3:28 remaining. The Aces came up empty on a pair of power plays in each of the first two periods, and fell behind 2-0 when a shot from the high slot by Dylan Mills was tipped in by Kevin St. Jacques at 13:34 of the second period.

Still down two goals late in the third period, Alaska (39-17-7) snapped a 0-for-23 slump on the power play as Chris Minard tipped in a B.J. Young drive from the point for his league-leading 42nd goal of the year, bringing the Aces within 2-1 with 1:53 left in regulation. After a time-out, Davis Payne pulled Aubry, who finished with 34 saves, in favor of the extra attacker. But following a couple of flurries in front, the Condors sealed the win with an empty-netter by Mike Hofstrand at 19:22.

Despite the loss, the Aces still lead the West Division by two points over Bakersfield (37-17-9) and by five over Long Beach, who pounded San Diego 8-1 Friday. Alaska has lost all three meetings this year at Rabobank Arena, with one final chance for victory tomorrow night against the Condors 6:00 p.m. AST, a game broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Aces will play their final three home games of the season next week against the Las Vegas Wranglers, with the series opening Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. and continuing Friday and Saturday.
