Dix, Bombers Throttle Chiefs Saturday Night

Dayton, OH – The Dayton Bombers matched their season-high with 7 goals in a 7-4 win over the Johnstown Chiefs in front of 4,596 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center Saturday night. Steve Dix scored his first three goals of the season in the winning effort for Dayton.

The only goal in the first period from Chad Cavanaugh gave Johnstown a 1-0 lead at 10:49.

The Bombers rallied with three goals in the first 4:48 of the second period and never looked back. Jeff Szwez (0:31) and Steve Dix (2:26, 4:48) gave Dayton a 3-1 lead. Joe Tallari pulled the Chiefs within one, 3-2, at 12:51 of the second period. Brad Brudzewski, a rookie from Bowling Green University who signed with the Bombers earlier in the day, gave Dayton a 4-2 lead with his first pro goal at 19:01.

The floodgates stayed opened in the third period as Szwez scored his second goal of the night at 0:46. Back-to-back goals from Cavanaugh (2:04) and Tallari (10:06) made it a one-goal game, 5-4. But Dix completed the three goal hat trick at 10:58, and Janne Jokila added another insurance goal at 14:07 to lift the Bombers to the 7-4 win.

The Bombers outshot the Chiefs 40-31 as Mike Ayers recorded the victory in goal for Dayton.
