Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Kevin St. Jacques scored a goal and added an assist for his 900th career point to lead the Bakersfield Condors to a 3-1 win over the Alaska Aces in front of 5,621 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Friday night. Improving to 4-1-1 against Alaska, Bakersfield pulled to within two points of the top spot in the West. The Condors wore special 1980-"Miracle on Ice"-style jerseys during the game and auctioned them off to raise money for the Petroleum Shrine Club.
The Condors had their chances with a couple of early power plays, but Peter Aubry stood strong. When Dennis Shiryaev poked a loose puck to center ice late in the first period, it freed up Mathieu Brunelle on a breakaway. The winger lifted a backhander past Aubry for his team-leading 22nd goal of the season.
Bakersfield extended the lead in the second period when Kevin St. Jacques deflected home a wrister from defenseman Dylan Mills at 13:34. Yutaka Fukufuji stopped seven shots in the period, including several point-blank opportunities to maintain the advantage.
Fukufuji came within two minutes of picking up the shutout, but it wasn't to be. The ECHL's leading scorer Chris Minard redirected a shot through the rookie netminder for his 42nd of the year, cutting the deficit to 2-1. With the net empty, Mike Hofstrand put the nail in the Aces coffin with his fifth of the year. Long Beach's 8-1 victory over San Diego tonight kept them three points behind the Condors in the standings.
The Condors and Aces will battle again on Saturday night when the Oakland Raiderettes come to town, sponsored by 106.1 KRAB Radio. Game time is 7:00 p.m. A regulation win for the Condors on Saturday will put them back into a first-place tie in the West Division.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Rabobank Arena box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office at the Rabobank Arena.
