ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Too many odd man rushes leading to second and third chances doomed Alaska in a 4-1 loss to Idaho Saturday night before 5,635 at Sullivan Arena.

Brett Draney scored the game's only goal through the first 40 minutes at 8:46 of the first period. Perched in front of Aces goaltender Peter Aubry, Draney squeezed a centering pass from Warren Peters through the pads for a 1-0 Idaho lead. An Alaska turnover gift-wrapped the second goal, a 2-on-0 breakaway in which Aubry first stopped Peters cold, only to be beaten on the rebound by Frank Lukes at 4:03.

The two-goal margin allowed the shorthanded Steelheads, who had just four defensemen in the lineup, to shut the game down for most of the third period. After not managing even a shot for several minutes, B.J. Young finally broke through for the Aces by jamming a wraparound through Idaho starter Colin Zulianello, who had beaten Alaska 3-2 in a shootout January 12.

Trailing 2-1 with 2:34 to play, the Aces passed up a scoring chance on the next shift, eventually turning the puck over and allowing the Steelheads an odd-man rush. Aubry stuffed Bobby Russell twice, but on his third try, Russell scored on a wrist shot with 2:03 left in regulation to put the game out of reach. Billy Tibbetts, who had taken a five-minute major in Friday's game, leading to three Alaska power play goals in a 6-3 Aces victory, accounted for the final margin with an empty-netter in the game's final minute.

The loss marked just Alaska's second over its last 14 games, and kept the third-place Aces (23-14-4) eight points behind West Division co-leaders Long Beach and Bakersfield. Alaska and Idaho (20-18-3) meet for the final time during the regular season tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. Immediately after the contest, fans may participate in the post-game "Skate with the Aces," presented by KeyBank.

The Aces also will welcome their 100,000th fan of the season through the doors tomorrow, and that lucky person will win 100,000 Alaska Airlines air miles, courtesy of GCI. The game itself will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, where Alaska's home games and selected road contests also can be seen on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to face-off.
