Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Reno, NV - The Tacoma Rainiers (19-32) saw their three-game road win streak snapped on Friday night, as the Reno Aces (27-25) picked up their first win of the series by an 8-3 final score. The Rainiers have still won eight of their last 11 road games, despite the setback.

Tacoma tallied first, after Jarred Kelenic singled up the middle to begin the game, his third consecutive game with a leadoff knock in the top of the first inning (homered on Wednesday and Thursday). Kelenic's nine-game hitting streak equals Mason McCoy (April 28 through May 11) for the longest on the club this season. Kelenic stole second base and reached third on a throwing error, before scoring on a Zach Green sac fly to make it 1-0.

A Dominic Fletcher single leading to a Seth Beer RBI double saw the Aces tie the game in the home first. The Rainiers went back in front in the third when Forrest Wall led off with a triple, and scored on a Kelenic groundout. Reno scored thrice in the third however, on three hits and a walk. Fletcher, who enjoyed a four-hit evening, doubled to drive in a run, and Stone Garrett drove home two on a triple, as the Aces took a lead into the middle innings they would not relinquish. It was 5-2 after a Grayson Greiner solo shot in the fourth, his second homer.

Reno starter Corbin Martin worked six innings, and the two runs against him (one earned) made it a quality start. The right-hander scattered only four hits and a walk, striking out four. Rainiers RHP Konner Wade worked five complete innings, surrendering five (earned) runs.

A bases loaded, bases-clearing three-run double in the seventh from Drew Ellis put the game out of reach for Reno. Andrew Knapp added his third home run since joining Tacoma last month, a solo blast yanked to right field in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring. Friday was only the seventh Reno win over the Rainiers in the last 22 Tacoma visits to Greater Nevada Field.

The penultimate game of this weeklong series will be on Saturday, at 6:35 p.m. PT. RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon will start for Tacoma, against Reno RHP Ryne Nelson.
