Reno Aces News Release
Reno, NV - Incredible lineup depth and a stalwart bullpen performance led the Reno Aces (28-24, 72-55) to a 9-4 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas (23-29, 55-72) in Tuesday night's series opener at Greater Nevada Field.
The Aces cobbled together a rally with two outs in an awe inspiring fourth inning. Kyle Lewis and Emmanuel Rivera led off with walks before back-to-back strikeouts, applying pressure to the bottom of the order. Adrian Del Castillo battled to a full count and grounded a two-run single through the right side to get the BLC Nine on the board. Jorge Barrosa followed with an RBI triple to the alley to knot the affair at three. Del Castillo drove in three runs on two hits and a walk while Barrosa went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Jordan Lawlar led off the fifth with a walk against former Major League All-Star Drew Pomeranz. Pavin Smith, who entered the contest hitting .364 with a .479 on-base percentage and nine extra-base hits over his last 20 games, deposited a go-ahead homer toward the bleachers in right center in the next at-bat. Smith's blast gave Reno its first and ulimately decisive lead of the night. Lewis, Lawlar, Rivera, Barrosa, Diego Castillo, and Del Castillo each reached multiple times in the win. Reno smacked eight hits and drew eight walks off El Paso starter Jay Groome and the Chihuahuas bullpen.
Josh Green, Stephen Nogosek, Kyle Backhus, Andrew Saalfrank, and Justin Martínez combined for a truly dazzling performance from the Aces arm barn. The stingy quintet allowed just one run with four strikeouts and zero walks across seven innings. The Aces and Chihuahuas continue their six-game set Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. PT from Greater Nevada Field.
