Columbus Blue Jackets Acquire Left Wing Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman from Atlanta Thrashers

(Syracuse, NY (October 8, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired left wing Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman from the Atlanta Thrashers for Future Considerations and assigned him to Syracuse. In addition, the Crunch have traded defenseman Tim Filangieri to the Chicago Wolves for future considerations.

LaVallee-Smotherman, 23, appeared in 64 games with Chicago (Wolves) last season, totaling 18 goals, 12 assists and 94 penalty minutes. He also appeared in two games with the Atlanta Thrashers last year. In all, LaVallee-Smotherman has skated in 219 AHL games with Chicago, tallying 54 goals, 52 assists and 257 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in four NHL games, all with Atlanta, recording one goal and one assist.

Prior to turning pro, LaVallee-Smotherman skated in 225 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) games with Quebec from 2002-06, collecting 72 goals, 67 assists and 307 penalty minutes.

A native of Corvalis, Oregon, LaVallee-Smotherman was selected by Atlanta in the fourth round, 116th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The Crunch travel to Binghamton on Friday, October 9 to take on the B-Sens before opening up at home when they face Adirondack on Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473- 4444 or by stopping by the Crunch office in the War Memorial at Oncenter, located at 800 South State Street in downtown Syracuse.
