
Pirates Start Busy Three-in-Three Weekend

PORTLAND, Maine - The Portland Pirates get knee deep into the American Hockey League Regular Season this weekend with three games in three days.
The busy stretch starts tomorrow (Friday) when the Pirates travel to Albany to face-off against the River Rats. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5FM and on line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
Saturday Portland returns home to meet Providence in the 2009-10 Home Opener at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The first ever Treasure Chest contest, magnetic schedule giveaway and USA Hockey Member Night highlight the beginning of the home portion of the Pirates 2009-10 regular season schedule. Tickets for the home opener, as well as all other Pirates home games at the Cumberland County Civic Center, are now on sale by calling (207) 775-3458, visiting the Cumberland County Civic Center Box Office or going on-line at www.portlandpirates.com . The Pirates (0-1-0-0) hit the busy stretch coming off a season opening 5-2 road setback to the Springfield Falcons on Saturday. Marc-Andre Gragnani paced the Pirates attack with both goals while Paul Byron collected his first career AHL point (assist) in his first career AHL game. Special teams were the deciding factor in the game as the Pirates were held at bay in seven power-play chances while the Falcons scored three times with the man advantage.
Albany enters Friday's game with an 0-1-0-0 record after opening the season with a 6-3 home opener loss to the Manchester Monarchs. Brett Carson, Drayson Bowman and Chris Terry scored for the River Rats in a losing effort.
Providence (1-0-0-0 prior to a home game against Hartford on Friday) posted a victory in their home opener last weekend as they topped Springfield 6-2. Trent Whitfield and Andy Wozniewski each paced the Bruins with a goal and two assists in the win while Brad Marchant and Jeff LoVecchio scored twice each.
Lowell (0-0-1-0 prior to their game Saturday against Worcester) captured a single point in their season opener last weekend, dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Ben Walter and Eric Castonguay registered a goal and an assist each for the Devils in the loss.
