MetroStars Execute Trade with Los Angeles

SECAUCUS, NJ (Wednesday, January 14, 2003) - The MetroStars acquired the first pick of the second round (11th overall) in Friday's 2004 MLS SuperDraft from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a first round selection in the 2005 draft and future considerations. The Metros then sent the 2004 pick to the Chicago Fire as part of compensation that led to the hiring of MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley from the Fire. The 2004 MLS SuperDraft will be held this Friday, January 16, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. ET at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C. The draft can be followed on www.MetroStars.com.

The MetroStars hired Bradley from the Fire on October 22, 2002 after receiving permission from Chicago to talk to Bradley, who was still under contract with the team he had coached since its inception in 1998. In return for the right to sign Bradley, the MetroStars sent Rodrigo Faria and a conditional 2004 MLS SuperDraft pick (the MetroStars choice of at least the 12th overall pick or a higher pick) to Chicago as compensation.

Bradley is the all-time winningest coach in MLS history posting a 93-64-24 in six seasons as a head coach (five with the Fire and one with the Metros). Prior to joining the expansion Fire in 1998, Bradley was an assistant coach under Bruce Arena at D.C. United in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Bradley has won three MLS Cup titles (two with D.C. and one with Chicago) and three U.S. Open Cup championships (one with D.C. and two with Chicago). In 2003, Bradley led the Metros to their first championship game, but the team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Fire in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final at Giants Stadium on October 15.
