
Crew Owns Three of Top 25 Picks in MLS SuperDraft

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Wednesday, January 14) - The 2004 MLS SuperDraft, presented by adidas, takes place this Friday, January 16, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center, in conjunction with 57th Annual National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention.
The Crew has seven total picks in the six-round draft including the second overall pick and three of the top 25 selections. The Crew selects second, 12th, 25th, 32nd, 41st, 42nd, and 52nd. D.C. United owns the first overall selection which they will use to draft Freddy Adu. The Crew had eight overall picks before trading away the 16th overall selection to Colorado in the Robin Fraser deal.
"Going into Friday's draft we have already made some moves that have improved our team in the Elliott and Lagos trades," said Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis. "We have an opportunity to add some quality youth to our roster through the draft. With our No. 2 pick, we feel we will be able to get a player who can make an impact in this league."
The first hour of the draft will be televised live on Fox Sports World, while it can be heard in its entirety via the Web on MatchNight.com presented by adidas.
Dwight Burgess, The Voice of The Crew, will host the Webcast on MatchNight.com. He will be joined on the show throughout the draft by ESPN.com writer Marc Connolly, New York Daily News writer Michael Lewis and other assorted guests.
Earlier this week The Crew traded for midfielders Simon Elliott (Los Angeles) and Manny Lagos (San Jose) for their 2005 natural first-round pick and 2005 natural third-round pick, respectively.
