Raptors 905 (3-6), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors dropped the second of two matches to the Birmingham Squadron (3-5) 105-108 Monday afternoon. Markquis Nowell led the 905 with a 20-point, 11-assist double-double, along with six rebounds in the loss. Birmingham had Malcolm Hill put up a game-high 30 points, six rebounds, two steals, and a block in the matchup.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰Birmingham came out strong in the opening minutes of the game, leading by as many as 10 points before 905 found their momentum to close the quarter out on a 10-2 run. The two teams went basket-for-basketed throughout the second quarter, with the 90 outscoring the home team 28-27 in the frame. Hill had 20 of his 30 points in the first half, helping the Squadron hold onto a four-point lead going into the break.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰The 905 and Squadron traded baskets throughout the third quarter, but the home team was able to hold onto their five-point advantage entering the final 12 minutes. The two teams went back-and-forth in the final frame as the Raptors 905 rallied back, bringing the ball game with one point in the final 21 seconds. However, a pair of free throws from Lewis Jr. sealed the game for the Squadron.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰Raptors 905 received complementary scoring from Kevin Obanor who added a team-high 21 points, seven rebounds, and a steal to the stat sheet. Trey Jemison paced the Squadron with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks shooting 7-7 from the field.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰The 905 travel to Capital City to close out their season series against the Go-Go, Wednesday, tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. The Squadron continues their homestand, hosting the Iowa Wolves Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
