October 10, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
Rumble at J. Benson Cartage...
What a game! Scoreless through the first and then the explosion in the second! Plymouth jumped on the board first just 43 seconds in, but the Amazing Tyler Toffoli with assists from Remy Giftopoulos and Sean Monahan fired one between the pipes 36 seconds later to even it up. Monahan is on fire this year...15 points in just 7 games!! Ben Dubois got a short hander 11 minutes later and the fireworks began. Two fights in 28 seconds sparked by Sean Monahan getting drilled from behind with no penalty call. We battled through the third and Steven Janes snuck one past Plymouth netminder Matt Mahalak at 18:43 and then Nicholas Foglia with an empty-netter secured the win at 4-1. That makes us 5-1-1 on an already great looking season.
Today was Do It For Daron Day, and many of us were decked out in our purple finest for the occasion (Daron's favorite colour). Last year Daron Richardson lost her life to suicide at just 14-years-old. We were proud to be a part of the youth driven program at the Royal created to raise awareness and inspire conversations about youth mental health.
Our boys and our fans stood up to honour the Do It For Daron volunteers and Daron's father, Ottawa Senators Assistant Coach, Luke Richardson the moment they stepped on to the ice for the ceremonial puck drop. You guys humble me every time.
Now, just in case you thought we were serious the whole game...don't! We had a blast!
We played tweet that tune during the first period and @TweetinWithNeil knew the song was Pat Benetar's "Hit Me WithYour Best Shot"played live by the Sarah McClurg band.
We always have so much fun around the rink...I swear I'd do my job for free I love it so much! (Just don't tell Jeff Hunt that...hee hee. Let's keep it our little secret.) See you Friday, October 14th at 7:30p.m. when the Brampton Battalions come to town.
Make some noise for our boys!
Ali - your friendly neighbourhood in-stands host
P.S...Don't forget to get your tickets to the Subway Super Series coming up November 10th. You won't want to miss the best of the best OHL players take on Russia right here on home ice.
