67's Take 3 of 6 Points on the Road
January 31, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
It's been an up-and-down road trip for the Ottawa 67's, who finished their last three-game set with a 1-1-1 record. The Barber Poles dropped a hard-fought game to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Wednesday, before besting the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night, and earning a point against the North Bay Battalion, Sunday afternoon.
Here's your recap of Ottawa's last three games:
Wednesday, January 26:
Ottawa 67's: 2 @ Hamilton Bulldogs: 4
It was a valiant effort on the road, against a strong Hamilton team, but ultimately a short-handed 67's squad fell just shy of pulling off an upset win.
The Barber Poles were never out of it, though, battling back the entire game. The Bulldogs stormed out to a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the contest, but Jack Matier cut the lead in half with his seventh of the campaign, drawing Ottawa within one.
Hamilton found another two in the second period, making it 4-1. Thomas Johnston returned fire for the 67's, but ultimately that was as close as Ottawa would get, and the night ended 4-2 in Hamilton's favour.
Friday, January 28:
Ottawa 67's: 3 @ Sudbury Wolves: 1
In a complete game performance, the 67's were able to get back into the win column on Friday.
A tight-checking first period saw these two teams enter the second frame in a scoreless tie, but it didn't take Ottawa long to grab control. Alex Johnston opened the scoring 3:25 in, and not long after, another Johnston came through, with Thomas tallying his second goal in as many games.
Vinzenz Rohrer's 11th of the season put the game out of reach in the third, and while the Wolves ended Max Donoso's shutout bid, he earned his first career First Star performance with 33 saves.
Sunday, January 30:
Ottawa 67's: 2 @ North Bay Battalion: 3 (Shootout)
The weekend concluded with the 67's in North Bay, and the Barber Poles again got off to a good start.
It was, again, Alex Johnston opening the scoring, but the Battalion were able to tie the game in the second period.
The game went scoreless from there, up until the 15:12 mark of the third, when Thomas Sirman found the go-ahead goal to give Ottawa a late lead.
Unfortunately, a penalty shot for the Battalion allowed them to tie the game with 29.2 to play, and they scored the only marker of the shootout, so the 67's had to settle for a well-deserved point to wrap up the weekend.
