OHL Ottawa 67's

67's Shut out Firebirds to Kick off Busy Weekend

December 14, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's kicked off another stretch of three games in three days with a decisive 3-0 shutout of the Flint Firebirds on Friday night.

After a scoreless start to the game, OHL leading scorer got things going for the 67's with just under four minutes to go in the opening period. Sprung on a short breakaway, Felhaber made no mistaking in sliding the puck past Firebirds goalie and Greely native Luke Cavallin.

Ottawa would extend its lead with 41 seconds left in the first when winger Quinn Yule picked up a loose puck at the blue line and fired home a wrist shot from the top of the face-off circle.

Lucas Peric's third of the season on a shot from just inside the blue line midway through the second period provided some insurance in a game that was never in doubt. Cedrik Andree made 17 saves in the win as Ottawa increased it's lead atop the OHL standings.

Ottawa is back in action on Saturday afternoon as the 67's host the Peterborough Petes in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game at 2 p.m. at The Arena at TD Place.

Game notes -

With his 36th goal of the season tonight, Tye Felhaber now has 12 goals in his last seven games. He has scored in 10 of his last 11 games and has now opened the scoring 12 times this season.

Because Will Cranley had to come into the game for 1:06 because of an equipment malfunction for the 67's starting goalie, Cedrick Andree will not be credited the shutout tonight. It would have been his second of the year.

The pair of rookies composed of Matt Maggio and Cam Tolnai had a solid game, both ending the night with and assist and a differential of +2.

Neither team had any luck on the powerplay in this one, going a combined 0-for-10 in the game.

What they're saying

André Tourigny, 67's Head Coach

''I think it was a huge trap game. If you look at Flint's recent games, they are in every game, they keep it close. We knew it wouldn't be an easy game. Watching their last couple of games, we knew that we would have to bring our A game, without a full roster. It was important for us to start the weekend with a good game.''

Cedrick Andree, 67's goalie

On the trap game... ''These are usually the games where I find a way to not play well, so I was kind of nervous going into this one. Whenever I don't get a lot of shots against, those are my most difficult games but I've been working with Charlie (McTavish) on a couple of tricks to put into practice today and it worked out pretty well.''
