66ers Wrap Best First Half Since 2007
June 16, 2013 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Adelanto, CA-Though they won't be able to make post season reservations yet, the Inland Empire 66ers (37-33) have concluded their best 1st half of a season since 2007. It ended Sunday in Adelanto with a 6-3 loss to the High Desert Mavericks (34-36).
Even though Sunday's game was deprived of all the meaning the 66ers had hoped it would hold after Lancaster clinched the first half crown Saturday, Inland Empire got off to a hot start offensively against the Mavericks. Alex Yarbrough hit a two run homerun in the 1st inning for a 2-0 lead, and his double in the 3rd drove in another run to make it 3-2 66ers.
On the mound Brandon Efferson looked like an ace filling in as a spot starter. The normal reliever delivered a quality start allowing three runs in six innings and at one point retiring 14 consecutive Mavericks batters. But when he left the game the control left the 66ers pitchers. Inland Empire walked four batters in a three run 7th for High Desert which they used for a 6-3 final score.
Inland Empire will now get a three day breather for the All Star break. Zach Borenstein, Mark Sappington, Kramer Sneed and Alex Yarbrough will be making their way to San Jose to represent the 66ers in the All Star game. They and the rest of the squad will return Thursday to San Manuel Stadium to begin the second half of the season against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
