Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Stockton Ports got a game-tying homer with two outs in the ninth, then tallied two in the tenth, holding off the Quakes on Saturday night by a final of 7-6 at LoanMart Field.
After Myrio Richard gave the Ports a 7-5 lead with a two-out double off Eric Eadington, the Quakes put together a rally in the bottom of the inning. Scott Schebler, who had three hits on the night, singled to bring the tying run to the plate with one out against Pedro Vidal. With two outs, O'Koyea Dickson kept the inning alive with a single of his own. With runners at the corners, Jonathan Garcia followed with a single, scoring Schebler and moving pinch-runner Casio Grider to third. Garcia stole second to put the winning run in scoring position, but that's where he'd remain, as Webster Rivas popped up to end the game, securing Vidal's first save of the year.
The Quakes led 5-4 with two outs in the ninth, but California League home run leader Max Muncy took Eadington (0-3) deep to right field with two outs and two strikes, evening the game at 5-5.
Rancho trailed 4-1 in the seventh, but scored a run in the seventh and then took the lead with three in the eighth, with Garcia providing the go-ahead RBI triple, making it 5-4.
Stockton reliever Jonathan Joseph (5-3) worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the win in relief.
Quakes' starter Carlos Frias allowed three runs on eight hits in his first start for the Quakes of 2013, after just being promoted from the Midwest League's Great Lakes Loons.
The Quakes (31-38) will look to salvage a split of the four-game set on Sunday, sending Gustavo Gomez (1-2) to the hill against Stockton's Deyvi Jimenez (0-3). Sunday is Baseball Card Giveaway, sponsored by Cagles Appliance, as 1,500 fans will take home a free set of Quakes 2013 Baseball Cards. Game time is 2:05pm and gates open at 1:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
