Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino stopped a five-game skid on Tuesday night with a strong pitching performance from a quartet of Sixers in a 3-2 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. The 66ers pushed two runs across in the seventh without benefit of a hit to take a lead and held on to improve to 2-3 against the Storm.
The Storm (10-16) took a 1-0 lead when Hudson Potts drilled a solo homer, his fourth of the year, to lead off the second inning. Inland Empire tied the game in the fifth when Richie Fecteau drilled a triple to right and then scored on Alberto Triunfel's RBI single. Triunfel finished the game 1-for-1 with the RBI, two walks and a steal. The Storm recaptured the lead in the seventh when Eguy Rosario doubled and came home on a triple by Kelvin Melean for a 2-1 advantage. In the bottom of the second the Sixers took a lead without a hit. Elliot Ashbeck (0-1) walked Triunfel and then hit Luis Rengifo to put runners at first second. A passed ball moved them up a base and a wild pitch tied the game. With Rengifo at third Jack Kruger bounced into a double play but Rengifo scored for a one-run lead. Jonah Wesely (1-0) was credited with the win allowing a run in two frames on two hits with a walk and four Ks. The Sixers (11-15) pitching corps of Nate Bertness (4.2IP), Daniel Procopio (1.1 IP), Wesley (2.0 IP) and Sean Issac combined to fan 12 batters while walking only three. Isaac, who joined the club earlier in the day from Low-A Burlington, earned the save with a perfect ninth.
The series continues Wednesday at 3:30pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
