Bullpen Paves the Way to Comeback

SAN JOSE, CA - For the second straight game, San Jose struck in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead. However, tonight a double play helped Jayson McKinsley hold the Giants to just one run in the frame, and it would end up being the only run San Jose would score.

Giants starter Melvin Adon was solid through six innings, working in and out of jams through in each frame, but became became wild to begin the seventh, walking both Manny Jefferson and Pavin Smith. Dominic Miroglio stepped in and, after having runners on base in every inning, the Rawhide finally broke through.

Miroglio hit a grounder up the middle that found a hole over the bag at second and scored Jefferson. Joneshwy Fargas's throw from center clanked off of the leg of first baseman Gio Brusa and allowed Smith and Miroglio to advance an extra 90 feet, putting runners at second and third with no outs.

Adam Walton followed by hitting a soft chopper up the middle that scored Smith from third to give Visalia their first lead of the series.

Kevn Ginkel allowed two triples but stranded the tying run on third in both the seven and eighth innings and Josh Taylor (SV, 4) pitched a clean ninth to send the Rawhide to a 2-1 win.

Visalia (16-10) also received two solid innings of relief from Tyler Mark, who took over for McKinsley in the fifth and held San Jose (15-11) scoreless. Mark (W, 1-1) struck out two and earned his first win in a Rawhide uniform.

McKinsley went four innings in his Rawhide debut while making a spot start and allowed a run on three hits while striking out four and walking three.

Adon (L, 0-2) tossed a season-best seven innings and was still throwing as high as 96 miles per hour in his final frame of work. Adon allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits while walking four and striking out five.

The Rawhide pitching staff combined to hold San Jose to two hits in 13 at bats with runners in scoring position, and the Giants left the possible tying run on third in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The Rawhide will send reigning California League Pitcher of the Week Bo Takahashi (3-0, 1.73) to the hill tomorrow evening against RHP Logan Webb (1-1, 1.38). First pitch is for 6:30 PM.
