SAN JOSE, CA - The Visalia Rawhide scored twice in the top of the seventh to take their first lead of the series and then held off the Giants late to post a 2-1 victory over San Jose on Tuesday evening at Municipal Stadium. The Giants (15-11) had the potential tying run at third base in both the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings, but were unable to rally against the Rawhide bullpen. The teams have now split the first two games of the series.

Frandy De La Rosa (2-for-4) had a pair of singles while Wander Franco (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) drove home San Jose's only run of the night to lead the way offensively in defeat. The Giants were just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

San Jose starter Melvin Adon (0-2) tossed a season-high seven innings, but suffered the loss. Adon, who took a shutout into the seventh, allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) during his stint on the mound. The right-hander walked four and struck out five.

The Giants took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Jalen Miller walked with one out and immediately scored when the next batter, Franco, belted a double to deep right center field. It would turn out to be San Jose's lone run of the contest.

Adon pitched around a leadoff baserunner in five out of the first six innings as the Giants maintained their one-run advantage. Visalia though would finally breakthrough in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back walks to Manny Jefferson and Pavin Smith started the inning for the Rawhide. Dominic Miroglio then grounded a single up the middle to plate Jefferson with the tying run. A throwing error from center fielder Johneshwy Fargas on the play also allowed Smith to take third and Mirogilo to move into second. Adam Walton followed with a groundout to shortstop scoring Smith for a 2-1 Visalia lead.

San Jose threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Matt Winn stepped to the plate with one out and smacked a triple to the fence in deep right field. De La Rosa then beat out a slow grounder to first for an infield single with Winn holding at third base on the play. Rawhide reliever Kevin Ginkel though pitched out of trouble inducing Brandon Van Horn to pop out before Fargas struck out swinging to end the inning.

With the score still at 2-1, the Giants again appeared poised to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth as Miller led off with a triple down the right field line. However with the potential tying run at third, Ginkel again escaped as he struck out Franco, retired Heath Quinn on a pop out to first and struck out Jacob Heyward.

Visalia closer Josh Taylor then worked a six-pitch 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to seal the Rawhide victory.

Tyler Mark (1-1) earned the win out of the Visalia bullpen after holding San Jose scoreless over the fifth and sixth innings. Mark allowed one hit and struck out two. Taylor notched his fourth save. Rawhide starting pitcher Jayson McKinley pitched the first four innings in his California League debut yielding just one run on three hits. He walked three and struck out four.
