40 former Mighty Ducks, Cyclones on NHL rosters

CINCINNATI, Ohio "" Forty former Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Cyclones players are on National Hockey League opening-day rosters.

The Mighty Ducks "" who suspended operations in May for the 2004-05 season due to the lack of an available NHL affiliate but with plans to return to the American Hockey League in 2006-07 "" have 30 players on NHL rosters and three former coaches behind NHL benches: Mike Babcock, head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, and Dan Bylsma and Brad Shaw, both assistant coaches with the New York Islanders.

Three different franchises used the name Cyclones during a 14-year period from 1990-2004, including two in the ECHL and one in the defunct International Hockey League. The IHL franchise "" which operated from 1992-2001 "" lists 10 former players on NHL rosters, including Dan Boyle of the reining Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning. Corey Schwab, who played goal for the original ECHL Cyclones in 1991-92, is also involved with the Lightning as associate goaltending coach and scout.

The Mighty Ducks are represented as well by Columbus Blue Jackets head trainer Chris Mizer and the IHL Cyclones by Islanders radio play-by-play man John Wiedeman and Blue Jackets radio color analyst Bill Davidge.
