Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON - Binghamton Senators head coach Dave Cameron today announced that left-winger Denis Hamel has been named team captain for the 2005-06 season.

"Denis is a good captain because he is our hardest worker, he is a proven veteran that knows what it takes to win at this level and he leads by example," said Cameron.

Hamel, 28, is entering his third season with the club and led the team in goals last season with 39, a professional-career high and franchise record. The Lachute, Quebec native has registered 145 points in 158 games in Binghamton, second only to AHL most valuable player Jason Spezza in points, and ranks first in franchise history with 68 goals.

Hamel is the fourth player in franchise history to serve as team captain. The others were Steve Martins and Brian Pothier during the inaugural season and Chris Kelly for the last two seasons.

The Binghamton Senators begin their fourth American Hockey League campaign on Saturday in Philadelphia at 7:05 p.m. You can catch all of the action on 680 WINR-AM beginning 30 minutes prior to faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of B-Sens hockey.
