Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa dominated Kingston on Saturday night, beating the Fronts 6-1, before a General Motors Centre crowd of 5,588. Boone Jenner had a 2-goal, 4-point night while Scott Sabourin and Tyler Biggs each struck twice in the win. Ken Appleby got the start for Oshawa, earning his first victory of the season and first win on home ice.
Oshawa grabbed a 2-goal lead in the first, before Kingston scored, cutting the deficit to 1. Making his first ever OHL appearance, Fronts goaltender, Lucas Peressini, didn't have it easy. The Generals outshot Kingston 16-to-6, with Boone Jenner solving the rookie net-minder twice in the first 12 minutes of the game.
Capitalizing on the power play, Jenner cracked the ice, wiring Michael Dal Colle's pass past a sprawling Peressini at 6:53. The tic-tac-toe play gave Jenner his 31st, putting Oshawa on top, 1-0.
Jenner continued to hold a hot hand at 11:35. Winning a neutral zone faceoff, Oshawa's captain used Dal Colle as a decoy, before ripping a wrist-shot short-side, making it 2-0.
Ken Appleby made back-to-back starts for the Generals and came close to keeping the Fronts off the board, giving up a short-handed goal with seconds to go in the frame. Roland McKeown shovelled his 6th through Appleby on a mad scramble out front on the power play, cutting Oshawa's lead to 2-1 heading into the second.
In the middle frame, the Generals played defensively sound hockey and restored their 2-goal advantage. Once again, Jenner was in on the action, winning an offensive zone faceoff back to Scott Sabourin, who promptly slung his 18th into the back of the net. Oshawa's penalty-kill was perfect, sending the Generals into the final frame with a 3-1 edge.
Oshawa's power-play provided more distance in the third. Positioned out front, Tyler Biggs deflected Chris Carlisle's point-shot through the wickets for his 16th and a 4-1 Generals' lead.
The Generals ran away with it at 15:41. Jenner and Sabourin connected for a second time with Sabourin rifling his 19th just inside the far-side post making it 5-1.
Biggs scored his second of the night, completing a 6-1 victory at 17:07. Pouncing on a loose puck, Biggs wired his 17th home, capping off Oshawa's offensive explosion.
Oshawa outshot Kingston 38-16.
The Generals swept the three-star selections with Jenner, Sabourin and Dal Colle taking home the honours.
Oshawa's next home game is tomorrow night, Sunday January 20th, when the Generals take on the Mississauga Steelheads at the General Motors Centre. Start time is 6:05 PM. Come out and cheer on the Gens as they battle for first in the East Division.
