3 Unanswered Goals Finish P-Bruins

PROVIDENCE, RI-The Portland Pirates scored three unanswered goals in the third period to win 4-2 and extend their winning streak and deal Providence a loss.

The Pirates got on the board first when Weegar's shot from the bullion slipped past Malcolm Subban. Harper and Olson were credited with the assists.

Brandon DeFazio tied the game 12:20 into the first with arguably one of the prettiest goals of the season. Alexander Khokhlachev dished the puck to Chris Breen who fired a shot from the left point. DeFazio collected the rebound off McKenna's pads then executed a series of textbook dekes before roofing the puck on his back hand.

The second period was scoreless, although Portland outshot the P-Bruins 14-3. Providence didn't manage to get a shot on net until the 10th minute of the period. Anton Blidh made his presence known, hitting everything that moved in the second 20 minutes of play.

Andrew Cherniwchan netted his first of the season for the go-ahead goal 6:39 into the third period. Cherniwchan shoved the puck under McKenna to put home his own rebound to put the P-Bruins up 2-1. Tommy Cross was credited with the helper.

But this was the last the P-Bruins would see of the lead, as the Pirates went on to score three goals in a row. Wilson tied the game when Weegar faked a slapshot, passed to Wilson who one timed it blocker side. Olson scored twice, including an empty netter, to give Portland the 4-2 win.

Providence was 0/4 on the power play, including a lengthy 5v3 opportunity in the third, which resulted in zero shots on net. Subban was often left to stand on his head, making 31 saves on 34 shots.

This was the first time the Portland Pirates beat the P-Bruins in regulation this season.

Providence is back home at the Dunk on January 3rd against the Rochester Americans.
