Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates completed a third period rally, scoring three unanswered goals to win 4-2 Tuesday night at the Cross Insurance Arena
The Pirates didn't waste any time beating up on the Bruins. Portland's MacKenzie Weegar dished the puck in past Malcolm Subban from the center point just 62 seconds into the game.
Brandon DeFazio knotted the game 1-1 at 12:20 of the first. Bruin's Alexander Khokhlachev forwarded the puck to Chris Breen who released a shot from the left point. DeFazio snagged the McKenna rebound and sent the backhanded shot into the net.
Portland didn't allow Providence a shot on net until the 10th minute of the second period, holding them to just three shots in the period.
Andrew Cherniwchan gave the Bruins their first lead of the game when he deposited his first goal of the season 6:39 into the third period. Cherniwchan snuck the puck in under McKenna to put Providence up 2-1. Tommy Cross was credited with the assist.
The Pirates didn't let the Bruins hold the lead for long, scoring three goals in a row. Garrett Wilson faked the slapshot before passing it to Wilson, who flicked in the one timer.
Portland grabbed momentum after tying the game, killing off a lengthy 5-on-3 opportunity without allowing a shot on net.
Brett Olson went on to score two goals, including the empty netter, to complete the third period rally for the Pirates.
Celebrate 2016 with the Pirates when they host the Bruins for the annual Kid's New Year's Eve Game on Thursday, December 31st. The puck drops at 5 p.m. Stick around after the game for Maine's largest indoor fireworks show to ring in the New Year! Tickets are now on sale but are going fast. Call 207-PIRATES for tickets today!
