The Ontario Hockey League today announced that five OHL teams have been approved to make formal bid presentations to host the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

It is the opinion of the Memorial Cup site selection committee that five out of the six teams that applied to host the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup, have satisfactorily met all of the necessary criteria in order to be provided with an opportunity to make a formal bid presentation. The teams that will be presenting to the Memorial Cup site selection committee are the Kitchener Rangers, London Knights, Oshawa Generals, Saginaw Spirit and Sarnia Sting.

The host site selection committee is comprised of Paul Beeston, former CEO of major League Baseball, Frank Bonello, former Director of Central Scouting for the National Hockey League, Brian O'Neill, Consultant for the National Hockey League and Jim Gregory, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the National Hockey League.

"We are not going to allow this decision to dampen our enthusiasm towards bringing the Memorial Cup to Kingston. We now look forward to bidding on the 2011 Memorial Cup," said Doug Springer, President and Governor of the Kingston Frontenacs.

The Memorial Cup tournament is rotated through each of the three Canadian Hockey Leagues yearly. The 2007 Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
