Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Toronto, Ont. (Tuesday, Mar. 6, 2007) - The St. Michael's Majors put together a listless effort against an Oshawa Generals club that was hungry to punch their playoff ticket this evening. The end result was a 13-3 Oshawa win, pushing the Majors record to 19-39-3-2 on the year.
The momentum swung in favour of the Generals within the opening seconds of the game when Majors captain Micheal Haley was whistled for seven minutes in penalties. The Generals raced out to a 3-0 lead during that time, and the theme of the game was established. It was 4-0 by the time the Majors answered and 7-2 for Oshawa at the end of the 1st period.
The Generals added five more goals in the 2nd period to make it 12-2 and sported a 12-3 advantage heading into the final frame. Things slowed down in the 3rd period, resulting in the 13-3 final.
The Oshawa goalscorers were Brett MacLean (3), Dale Mitchell (3), Brett Parnham (2), Cal Clutterbuck, Corey Cowick, Igor Gongalsky, John Tavares and Kyle Paige. The assists were credited to Mitchell (3), Parnham (3), MacLean (2), Clutterbuck (2), Gongalsky (2), Tavares, Matt Seegmiller (3), Eric Regan (2), Tyler Taylor, Peter Aston, Murray Free, Kory Nagy and James DeLory.
The Majors goals went to Kaspars Daugavins, Jesse Messier and Matt Russo (first career tally). Their helpers were given to Daugavins (2), Anthony Tapper, Cassidy Preston, Mike Pelech and Darrell Simich.
Both Majors goaltenders, Chris Carrozzi and Wayne Savage, were pulled at varying points of the game. They ended up combining for 31 saves. Loic Lacasse responded with 20 stops for the Generals. Oshawa was 6 for 7 on the power-play while St. Mike's was 0 for 4. The game's three stars were Mitchell (1st), MacLean (2nd) and Parnham (3rd).
The Majors hit the road for the next two games, visiting the Barrie Colts on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Mississauga IceDogs on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. They return home to entertain the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
