2003 Preseason Opens This Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, will open the 2003 preseason with a pair of hockey games and one football game this weekend. The Sound Tigers will host the Worcester IceCats tomorrow, Friday, September 26th, at 7:35 p.m. at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice and will play the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Flyers Skate Zone in northeast Philadelphia Saturday at 4 p.m. The Sound Tigers will also co-sponsor this Saturday's Yale-Cornell football game at the Yale Bowl in New Haven.
Tickets for Friday's game versus Worcester can be purchased in-person at the Wonderland of Ice at 123 Glenwood Avenue in Bridgeport and cost $10 each with proceeds benefiting the Wonderland Wizards Youth Hockey Association and The Pro Sports Challenge, which helps people with mental retardation.
There will be a youth mini-hockey game featuring the Wonderland Wizards during the first intermission and a Chuck-A-Puck during the second intermission of Friday's game. There will be three prizes for Friday's Chuck-A-Puck including a suite at a Sound Tigers regular-season game, a child's birthday party package at a Sound Tigers regular-season game and a goal stick autographed by former Sound Tiger and current Islanders Goaltender Rick DiPietro.
2003-04 Sound Tigers season ticket holders can receive free tickets to Saturday's Yale-Cornell football game, which kicks off at 1 p.m., by calling the Sound Tigers at 203-334-GOAL.
The Sound Tigers will also play a pair of preseason games next weekend visiting Worcester in Marlboro, Massachusetts on Friday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. and hosting the Manchester Monarchs at the Winter Garden Arena in Ridgefield on Saturday, October 4th at 4:05 p.m. They will open the regular season on the road versus the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, October 10th and will host the Philadelphia Phantoms in their home opener at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday, October 11th at 7:05 p.m.
The Sound Tigers are beginning their third season of play and first under the guidance of new Head Coach Greg Cronin.
