Columbus Assigns Three To Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (September 25, 2003) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Aaron Johnson, goaltender Karl Goehring and defenseman Paul Traynor to Syracuse.

Johnson, 20, appeared in 32 games with Quebec (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) last season, recording 6 goals, 31 assists and 41 penalty minutes. A native of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Johnson was Columbus' fourth pick, 85th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Goehring, 25, appeared in 49 games last season with Syracuse, posting a 18-21-4 record, a 2.67 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. A native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Goehring was originally signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 7, 2001.

Traynor, 26, split time between Syracuse (42 games, 3g, 8a and 40 PIM's), Charlotte (ECHL) (one game) and Trenton (ECHL) (22 games, 4g, 6a and 26 PIM's). Originally drafted by Winnipeg with their seventh choice, 162nd overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native signed an American Hockey League contract with Syracuse this off-season.

The Crunch's home schedule begins on Saturday, October 11, when the Hershey Bears visit the War Memorial at Oncenter for the Express Mart Opening Night, followed by the Labatt post-game concert featuring The Jets, presented by Syracuse New Times, TK99 and Sunny 102.
